As a Brisbane hypnotherapist, I was recently delighted to bring some hope to a beautiful client that had lost her meaning of life. She had been through a series of significant traumas from childhood right through into her thirties which had compounded to her being so deeply emotionally drained that she could find no purpose of living any further than the early sixties in which she was already in. She felt the older she got the more hopeless she became.
Over the past thirty odd years this lovely lady had tried a number of ways of lifting the veil but had so far been unsuccessful. She had attempted suicide and thought about it constantly. The only thing that kept her going was her children, and at times this simply wasn’t enough so she decided to explore hypnotherapy.
When we first met it was apparent that my client actually looked after herself very well – externally. She looked fit and healthy and was dressed beautifully. Her manner was, and continued to be, absolutely charming and her high level of intellect shone through. However, when she relaxed and opened up in counselling, so too did her sadness.
She was so desperate to do one of two things. To either become happy and content in this lifetime or to leave absolutely everything behind and find her happiness and contentment elsewhere. I was determined she wasn’t going anywhere! We spoke at great length about the pros and cons of staying or leaving, and finally through hypnosis she was able to acknowledge that although certain events in her life had caused her great sorrow she could actually be free of them now, and begin to look forward. This gave her a wonderful glimmer of hope for the future.
However, the issue of what she was going to do with that future then rose it’s curious head. What was the point of having a future if one felt entirely useless to do anything with that future? We explored her lifestyle and found that she was extremely active in her local community. She organised coffee mornings, birthday teas, and visited people less fortunate than herself on a daily basis. All of the people she came in to contact with told her how good she made them feel. She cheered them up, brightened their day and made them feel special. They came to my client on a regular basis to get a dose of the feel good factor that she handed out in spoonfuls.
We found a ‘use’ for my client! Now that hypnotherapy had allowed her to leave all the negative reactions to the negative events of her past where they belonged – in the past – she could move forward with clarity and realise her purpose was to be that beacon of happiness and hope to others.
This is turn now brings her the happiness and contentment that was lacking from her life. Far from feeling useless and hopeless, she has a job to do! In fact, she’s such a fine worker that she simply has no time to dwell on what used to be. She now lives in the now, enjoying all that her busy life brings her.
